Well like /u/Craftymalehooker Game Maker is another candidate but only if you are willing to dive into the code. However, it hasn't stopped GM from having launched some stellar games such as Spelunky, Hotline Miami, Undertale, etc etc. That being said, the program does have some drawbacks to it, especially when you are not willing to dive into the code side of things. However, there are different exporting modules to target multi-platform available in the store (as of this post they are on sale!) Multi-Platform Targeting - By default, the free version (GameMaker:Studio) can only publish games for Windows Desktop. If you want to step up and take on the code yourself, the GML scripting language exists (and is C-language based, which makes learning a lot easier for a majority of programmers imo) Visual Editors - you can manipulate sprites and "rooms" for your game in graphical ways (Personally, I wouldn't use their sprite editor unless you really have to it's just not as robust as external options and it can introduce unexpected errors as you make changes)ĢD Physics - built in Box2D physics support and Google's LiquidFun particle physics (for all manner of juicy space explosions)īone-based Animation Support - integrated animation support for Spine from Esoteric Software (a fairly popular choice of sprite animation program these days)ĭrag'n'Drop or GML - You can develop games entirely with "drag and drop" icons that represent behind-the-scenes code.

You can get the full information from the site of course, but in a nutshell:
Well, I'm not sure what your research entailed but I'm a little surprised that GameMaker isn't on your candidates list.
